Ed Reid “Spang” and Ruth Clemens “Rosie”, moved from Evergreen Park, IL, to. St.Germain, WI, in 1972.

Spang had a successful commericaal pipe fitting business in the greater Chicago area.  In 1972, he and Rosie, the trend setters that they were, decided to “Escape to Wisconsin”!

Spang sold his business, they purchased Spang’s, moved their family, moved into their new home, the trailor behind the restaurant, and got busy! They spent months, with the help of their children,  handcrafting the expereience. From the bricks, fire place, sing-alongs, Spang and Rosie built a business, a tradition,  and memories for every guest. 

They opened their second restaurant in Minocqua in 1988. After years of entertaining, Spang and Rosie retired and sold the St.Germain location to their son Joe Reid, and Minocqua to their son Ed Reid.
